When a mother sought refuge from the forms that insisted her child be labeled, Rhyder sat with her while she brewed tea and taught her to fold a paper boat with the child’s birth song written inside. When a clerk refused a person service for having a particular scar, the Asylum staged a parade of scarred people who told stories in chorus until the clerk’s words were inadequate.
