The movie follows the story of Dan Millman (played by Matt Damon), a gymnast who enrolls in the University of California, Berkeley. Dan meets Socrates (played by Alan Arkin), a mysterious and unorthodox gas station attendant who becomes his mentor. Socrates teaches Dan the ways of the "peaceful warrior," helping him to overcome his personal struggles and find inner peace.
