The first game, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, was released in 1996 and allowed players to control iconic Marvel characters like Wolverine and Storm alongside Capcom's Street Fighter heroes. The game was a critical and commercial success, leading to the development of Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter in 1997.
