Luttrell manages to escape into the nearby mountains, where he is taken in by a local Pashtun farmer, Gulab (played by Waheed Afzal). The farmer, despite risking his own life, hides Luttrell and nurses him back to health. Meanwhile, back in the United States, Luttrell's family and fellow soldiers grapple with the news of the mission's failure and the loss of their comrades.
